Exploring activity feed for collections and resources

The activity feed provides a detailed log of all events and updates related to your resource. This feature is accessible through the Activity tab on your resource page or collection page. It serves as a centralized record, allowing you to monitor resource changes effectively.

The activity feed applies to Collections and all metadata catalog resources, including:

  • Custom resources

  • Business glossary resources

  • Database resources : Tables and columns

  • Analysis resources

Important

Activities performed prior to November 2024 are not captured in the activity feed.

Details captured in the activity feed

The Activity tab on your resource or collection page shows a detailed log of all changes, including what was modified, when it happened, who made the change, and which object was affected. The following details are included in each activity entry.

Description

Change type

Indicates what kind of activity was made and provides a record of the modification made to the resource or its contents, including what changed and its updated state.

Note: For system driven batched events, changes are not listed, but links to changed files are available.

Contributor information

The user avatar and username to identify who made the change.

Timestamp

The exact time the activity occurred, offering chronological context for the resource progress.

Events tracked in the activity feed

The activity feed logs both system-driven (Base layer) and user-driven (User layer) updates to catalog resources.

The following table provides a concise breakdown of event types.

Details

Create

Records the creation of a new resource or collection.

Update

Records updates to resource metadata, including title, description, summary, tags, or other custom metadata fields.

Delete

Records when the resource or collection is deleted. This even is visible only in the organization activity page and not on the resource page.

Suggest

Records suggest change events, such as change suggested, change rejected, change accepted, suggestion canceled.

Relationship change

Records updates or creations of resource relationships. Bidirectional changes are tracked for both linked resources. Note: Subcollection creation is not recorded.

Batched events

These are batched system-driven events such as creating, updating, deleting of resources through the ddw-catalogs dataset, creating and updating resources using collectors, and file syncs.

Comment

Records additions of new comments to existing discussion topics. Note: The creation or removal of discussion topics, and updating or removal of comments is not recorded.

Collection assignment change

Records changes such as adding, moving, removing a resource to and from a collection.



Note

Events related to Settings changes are not tracked. These include granting or revoking member access, editing permissions, removing users, or bookmarking resources.

Caution

If the IRI (unique identifier) of a resource changes, the activity log associated with the previous IRI is removed from this list.

Viewing the activity feed

Note

The feed displays up to 100 activity items.

To view and manage activity details:

  1. Navigate to the Activity tab on the resource page or collection page.

  2. View a stream of all tracked changes related to the resource. For detailed information about specific changes, click Show changes to view additional details.

  3. Hover over the timestamp of any event to view the exact time it occurred.

  4. Use the Filter dropdown to narrow down activities by type. You can select multiple filters to focus on specific updates. For example, create, update, and suggest.

  5. Use the Sort by option to arrange events chronologically, displaying either the most recent activities first (Newest first) or the oldest activities first (Oldest first).
