Enhance a resource page with custom section (CTK)

STEP 1: Create a custom section

The system comes with four out-of-the-box sections - Informational, People, Technical, Explorer Sidebar Metadata. You can view them from the Resources tab by filtering on Sections. This will also give you a list of custom sections created in the organization.

Note

Perform this task in the Catalog Configuration organization.

To add a new custom section:

  1. On the Organization profile page, go to the Resources tab.

  2. Click the New resource button and select Catalog resource.

  3. On the Create a new resource page, in the Select type tab, select Section. Click the Continue to configure fields button.

  4. In the Add new resource window, set the following and click Continue.

    1. In the Title field, provide a name of the custom section you want to add. For example, Calculations.

    2. From the Collections dropdown, select the Metadata profile collection.

  5. In the Configure fields tab, set the following in the More information section.

    • Display order: Set the order for section.

  6. Click Continue to review Section.

  7. In the Review Section tab, check the configuration details for any possible errors before saving it. If adjustments are needed, click Back to edit the configuration.

STEP 2: Create a custom field and add it to a custom section on a resource page

Note

Perform this task in the Catalog Configuration organization.

  1. On the Organization profile page, go to the Resources tab.

  2. Click the New resource button and select Catalog resource.

  3. On the Create a new resource page, in the Select type tab, select Metadata field - freeform. Click the Continue to configure fields button.

    The Create a new Metadata field - freeform page opens.

  4. In the Configure fields tab, set the following in the About section.

    1. In the Title field, provide a name of the field you want to add. For example, let us add a field called Profit calculation.

    2. From the Collections dropdown, select the Metadata profile collection.

    3. Set the rest of the properties for the field and click the Save button. You can alternatively also create date fields or select fields.

  5. In the Configure fields tab, set the following in the More information section.

    1. Resource types: Search and select Metric. Click Add.

    2. Search and select the Calculations section. Click Add.

  6. Click Continue to review Metadata field - freeform.

  7. In the Review Metadata field - freeform tab, check the configuration details for any possible errors before saving it. If adjustments are needed, click Back to edit the configuration.

  8. Click Create Metadata field - freeform.

Publish the changes

Note

Perform this task in the Catalog Sandbox organization.

  1. In the Catalog Sandbox organization, go the Glossary tab of the Organization profile page.

  2. Either create a new Business Metric or select an exiting one.

  3. You will notice a new section on the page call Calculations with the field Profit calculations. Edit the field to set a value for it.
